Chase Moore, a dedicated and accomplished individual, has emerged as a powerful force for change in education and advocacy. Born with an innate passion for addressing systemic issues, Chase's journey encompasses resilience, advocacy for educational reform, and a commitment to societal change.
Starting as a former walk-on defensive back for the Texas Longhorns football team, Chase's story took an unconventional turn. Although he began in the spring game of 2018, he never played an official snap for the Longhorns. However, rather than measuring success by touchdowns and tackles, Chase found fulfillment in a broader impact.
Beyond the football field, Chase's interests coalesced around three key areas: educational policy, anti-racism, and human rights violations. These weren't just topics; they became the cornerstones of his life's work. His unique perspective and determination set the stage for a remarkable journey.
Chase has been a staunch advocate for reshaping how Black history is taught in education. Troubled by the outdated resources he encountered in his elementary school, he questioned the fundamental purpose of education, asking, "Is it to educate, or is it to incarcerate?" This query became the driving force behind his advocacy efforts.
His influence reached its zenith when he testified at the Texas State Capitol before the Board of Education. Advocating for comprehensive African American studies in the K-12 curriculum, Chase's testimony garnered attention, with over a million people witnessing his impassioned plea for change. The Board of Education implemented his recommendations, marking a tangible victory in pursuing an equitable education system.
Chase's commitment to education extended to his creation of the "52 Videos, 52 Weeks" series. Throughout 2020, he delved into various aspects of educational policy, using his platform to inform and inspire. His voice echoed at the Black Student-Athlete Summit held at UT, where he recognized his role as part of a more significant movement. In this movement, Black student-athletes aspire to transcend stereotypes and be more than just athletes.
A mentee of Leonard Moore, a history professor at Texas, Chase leverages his academic prowess to amplify his impact. Leonard Moore acknowledges Chase's determination to leverage his platform for lasting change beyond the confines of the football field.
At just 24 years old, Chase Moore is set to receive his Master's in educational leadership and policy, a testament to his perseverance and dedication. Raised in a challenging environment, he faced rejection from the University of Texas, only to defy the odds, appeal, and gain acceptance. His life story transforms, turning rejection into acceptance and adversity into triumph.
As a Special Assistant in the Office of the Secretary at the Department of Education, Chase Moore continues to channel his passion and expertise toward reshaping education policy at a broader scale. His commitment to authentic care, equity, and accessible resources for every child reflects his personal journey and ongoing contributions to the educational landscape.
